Victim Assistance Program
 

Training and Education

The Victim Assistance Program at the Minnesota Department of Corrections provides training to non-profit agencies and community groups, including victims of crime, correctional staff and criminal justice professionals. 

Training and education topics include:

  • Victim impact      
  • Victim rights and resources    
  • Victim initiated restorative practices
  • Violence in the workplace

Victim impact training topics include the physical, psychological, emotional and financial impact of criminal behavior on victims; safety planning; victim notification and VINE.

Victim rights and resources training topics include the victim's right to be notified; to participate in prosecution; to protection from harm; to apply for financial assistance; community resources; and post-conviction practices and procedures.

Victim-initiated restorative practices include speaking on victim impact panels, apology letters, victim offender dialogue, and other surrogate dialogue opportunties.
